eSIM for Moldova

Buy and install the eSIM while you are still home on your own wifi. You get a QR code by email after you order. Open your phone settings, choose to add a mobile or cellular plan, then scan that code. You can skip the Orange and Moldcell kiosks in the arrivals hall completely. No passport registration, no cash, no language barrier. Your data is already working as you walk to the taxi rank or the bus into the city center.

Coverage in the capital is strong. You will get fast 4G in the city center, around Stefan cel Mare Boulevard, the Central Market, and near the main train and bus stations. This is more than enough for ride apps like Yango, live maps, and looking up cafes and restaurants.

A traveler who uses data all day will burn through more than someone who mostly relies on hotel wifi. If you stream video, upload photos, and use your phone as a hotspot, the 5 GB for 30 days plan at $3.33 fits a week of heavy use. For two weeks of normal browsing, the 10 GB for 30 days plan at $5.99 is the safe pick.

Most visitors take a day trip to the famous wine cellars at Cricova and Milestii Mici, or head to Orheiul Vechi to see the cliffside monastery. Orange covers these routes well, and you will hold a signal along the main highways out of Chisinau and in the towns.

Service can dip deep inside the underground wine tunnels and in remote rural pockets near the hills. That is normal for any network underground. Download your map of the area before you set off, so you can still find your way if the signal drops for a few minutes.

Keep an eye on your usage in your phone settings. If you are running low near the end of a trip, you do not need a new SIM. Just buy another plan and load it the same way. A small 1 GB for 7 days plan at $0.80 is a cheap way to cover your last few days.
